The real problem is the cost of borrowing.It's the old trick of getting people to blame the current leader for the current problems. Lay the ground for character assassination in order to replace with less able people in charge and breed resentment. Makes it easier to get your own elected in the future.

IMO Starmer was already stuffed when he allowed Reeves to steal the old folks keep warm money. Most voters were completely floored by that action.

The question is whether his successors want to chuck him out now, and risk a similar defeat, or wait.
