I have some softwood thats been sitting in dirt for about 4-5 years and want to use it for some roofing work. The timber itself looks solid albeit a bit dark on the outside. How can I establish if there is any rot ? Would untreated timber last 5 years out in the open laying on dirt ?

Is it treated timber?
I don't remember It was for a previous build. It is heavier than normal softwood so it's probably C16/CLS if that helps.
It's rock solid. Maybe afew splinters on the edges and darker skin, but otherise very strong and heavy.
It's been treated appallingly.
I'd bite the bullet and buy new , if it was something easily accessed it may be a different story.
