Interesting reading about a Russian website hacking into internet linked CCTV in the UK

A good reason to think very carefully before connecting a camera to the Internet.

These are public domain reports about a massing hacking process. It seems there are many instances of hackers getting control of and video from webcams and internet connected CCTV systems.

Mainly due to people not altering the standard default usernames/passwords of the cameras or DVR's and then connecting them to the internet.

I know of a DVR on a site with default passwords, and the site refuses to let us change it, as they prefer something default they wont forget. Their argument is the footage is nothing sensitive.

I have looked at the russian website, and this site is not listed

If you leave passwords as default, you're asking for attacks!

You should also upgrade the firmware, as many have loop holes. You should also consider using a https conection (even an un-signed one, as you know to trust yourself). Passwords are then send encrypted. It is not hard to sniff passwords sent over http.
