Hello all!

Apologies if this is a really stupid question; as will become immediately obvious this is not my area of expertise.

I have a vaillant boiler which was serviced about one month ago and which churns out masses of hot water on demand. In the last couple of days though I have not been able to get the heating on. Previously it was absolutely fine. I have been peering through the instruction books etc and I can't see a reason why it wouldn't be working. I can hear it doing it's thing, the display panel is showing all the right stuff as far as I can see and there is still absolutely no heat in the radiators.

Can anybody suggest anything blindingly obvious that I might have missed? Is there anything basic I could try doing myself to fix this?

Sorry.

I don't know which model it is; according to the instruction book thing it is one of turbomax plus 824/2e, turbomax plus 828/2e, thermocompact 615/2e, thermocompact 620/2e, thermocompact 624/2e, thermocompact 628/2e. There are no markings on the boiler itself other than the vaillant name and logo.

I am informed that currently the thing is giving code s7 (I'm not there to see this myself right at this moment).

It sounds as if the diverter has failed!

Thats a very common fault on the 824. So common that we keep about five replacements in stock just in case we have a breakdown call out of hours or on Christmas day!

I had to go to the sticky on definitions to find out what that was!

Does that mean that I should be getting on the phone to a plumber and asking them to bring a new diverter ASAP? And also are you able to indicate what sort of cost might be involved in replacing this? Unfortunately I am in London ...

I certainly shall if this doesn't miraculously resolve itself! (Tony do you cover Putney?)

- which it seems to be having a go at doing. I am informed that the radiators just suddenly started to heat up without anything being changed; on inspection the information code being dished out now is s4.

Do you have any thoughts on whether this has just been a blip and should be left alone, or whether I should get this checked out anyway?

Many thanks for help so far!

S4 and S7 mean burner ignited and pump over run, respectively. They are not fault codes. Just saying what the boiler is doing.

What controls do you have i.e clock and roomstat?

There is one thermostat for the house, located a good distance away from the boiler but close to where I imagine an old boiler used to be. There's an electronic clock with a 7 day timer programme which I'm not currently using. Does that answer the question?
