Hi,
I hope someone can help with a technical issue on the above. I have an existing brick built manhole with a right angled bend at the bottom made from salt glaze pipe. Its about 850mm deep.
I need to join in to this to effectively make it a 'T' going with the existing flow. The new 100mm plastic pipe will discharge water from sinks and washing machine.
I have dug the trench but am very unhappy about the prospect of joining at exactly the same level as this will mean cutting into the salt glaze with the risk of cracking it. Do I have to do this to comply with building regs or could I bring the new pipe in just above the existing ie so the bottom of the new plastic effectively sits on top of the of the salt glaze pipe.
If I do have to, will the salt glaze cut with diamond blade/anglegrinder? Any other suggestions?!

Thanks,

Dunc

I would bring the new pipe in to sit on top of the salt glaze as you describe. You will then have to form new mortar benching around your pipe.

Nige,
Thanks for the link but the existing clayware is already a right angled bend, my connection will make it into a T. As I see it the slipper would only help if i were connecting into a straight thro joint?
