now in my time normal was perhaps 6-8% with much higher up to 17.09% now just for context not overly accurate but near enough to give a feel all amounts ment to be accurate but after 3 pints and 4 whiskies please make allowances as required

75-79 -----average about 12%--high 17.9 --low 5
80-84-------"---------"----12-----"----16-----"--8.81
85-89----------------------10----------14.88----7.38
90-94---------------------10-----------13.88----5.13
95-99----------------------6------------7.5------5.5
00-04---------------------4-------------6.0------3.5
05-09----------------------4------------5.75-----0.5
15-19 aug16 0.25--nov17 0.50--aug 18--0.75
last 5 years rates well known
i feel desperately sorry for those with mortgages as the interest rates reach the lower end at 6%
if the pain is striking home now think off us savers deprived off any income for 15 years ;)

"Normal?"

Normal is inflation rate plus a bit.

Inflation has recently been alarmingly high.

It is still quite high but not as bad as when the Cons chose Truss to damage the country.

Long-term interest rates fell, but are a bit higher today than around Christmas.

The trade thinks they will stay high for a while.

One effect is that pension annuity rates are currently quite high.

This is not as good as it sounds, because unless you peg out quite quickly, inflation will erode the value of the pension in your remaining years.

She trussed up the country for sure, almost as if bribing the party membership with tax cuts was what mattered, almost as if she wasn't in any way responsible for governing the country. One thing the tories cant do is blame world events for her election.

I feel for young families trying to get on to the property ladder.
