Has anyone had any luck with the kee clamp style malleable end plugs?
It's an alloy plug that hammers into the end of the tube, but I'm not having much luck with them, they're either too tight (one was so tight that it broke) or too loose, just rattling around.

I think in future I'll use the plastic end caps, but for now, I'd like to figure out how to get these on. I'm thinking JB weld, or some instant repair putty?

I was thinking of drilling the tube for a grub screw, but that seems like too much faffing about.

Any other bright ideas?

Instead of tape, I went with a cut strip off of a galvanised angle bead, wrapped it round the plug and hammered in. JB Weld in the joint.

If tight, heat the handrail or freeze the end cap.

If loose, I'd be inclined to bend the knibs out with a hammer or clamp. And/or use some mastic/adhesive of some sort

The knibs are too thick to bend. I think the idea is that the metal deforms during installation. But I broke off the first one, then had to fix it back on with a screw in a tapped hole and JB weld. Massive faff but job's done.
