I find grit or sandy substance in bottom of glasses and cups in top rack. I have cleaned all rims of dishwahser. It is only 2 yrs old. Anyone have an idea?

You've taken the filters out, and cleaned them; and you've taken the arms out as well (they can get food particles inside)? And you haven't been cleaning any non-food items, like ashtrays?

Have you had any plastic parts in there that could break up or melt; or anything like a glass jar with a rubber/plastic seal that could break, or home-made pottery? Are there any signs of anything melted on the heating element?

If the grit is a transucent orange/brown material like raw cane sugar crystals, it might be the water-softener granules, though they can't normally escape from their canister under the dishwasher floor. Does your machine have a salt compartment, and have you kept it full?
