Monday morning, my hot water tap wouldn\\\'t turn off on my kitchen mixer this morning.
I took the hot tap handle off and tried to reset it in a different place on the cogs but it still wouldn\\\'t turn off - only seems to turn a 1/4 turn!!! Was running late for work so turned it off at stop tap!!!
Please help as I know mixers don\\\'t have washers so what\\\'s happened?
Yours hopefully
Ali

Thank you but what is a cartridge?

The insides of the tap which open and close. Once you take the tap handle off the cartridge, you will see that they are screwed into the tap body :D

Marvelous. I'll have a go later on tonight and will let you know if all is well tomorrow or if I have a swimming pool in my Kitchen.

cheers
Ali :)

 Well the valve has arrived and I've stripped the tap down in order to remove the old valve but guess what? I'm too weak to shift it, whilst pulling on the spanner it feels like I'm going to pull the whole tap out of the socket!! Any ideas? Tips? does something else need to be removed in order to unscrew the valve?
HELP! anyone...?

 which means what? I've tried removing it in a clockwise direction - no anti-clockwise......

Not sure if its the same with yours but my mixer is one side clockwise and the other anticlockwise. same with the threads in the barrel. think its so when you turn the tap on you are not unscrewing the barrel as well?

Your avin a laugh

Try trying to tighten it first. As a last resort could try heating with a blow lamp, but might lose finish on tap

You need to eat your porrage in the morning an get along to the gym . no seriously try a ring key spanner on it .Has to turn anti clockwise .

Well guys its done - i'm afraid it took a man to do it but even he struggled and had to use WD40 and BRUT force... However, the tap is now working perfectly....Was going to swap out the cold tap valve but BRUT force and WD40 wouldn't move it....just have to wait until I can find a stronger man. Thanks for all your help and support. Ali G :D
