Please I need someone to speak sense to me.
We’ve had a new extension which has a new screed floor in half (poured about a month ago and totally dry now, we had a specialist company in to do this) and the old concrete floor in the other half.
The plumber came round a few weeks ago and said they could work with the floor so sent his lads to fit low flow ufh on Monday. The lads came round started it then decided parts of the old floor wasnt level enough. They ghosted us leaving our house in a right mess. We spent 3 hours scraping adhesive off the floor and pulling up the few ufh tiles they had fitted, which btw are like a 18mm fibre board with 12mm channels in for the water pipes. They left loads of tiles with adhesive on the back, some were broken etc. Wouldn’t answer phone then told us they never said they could work with that floor, backtracking and basically calling us liars (as if we wouldn’t have got the floor prepped properly if we’d have been told to!) we both stood and heard him say he could work with that floor by using certain adhesives, now denying he said it. His solution - “get someone else to do it” we’d paid £3k to him for the ufh materials FYI! We do have all of this on site - boards, pipes manifold.
Anyway we got new plumbers round to come and have a look and they recommended this guy who’s been with his lads and sorted the floor for us to make it totally level. They dug out a section (about 1/4 of whole extension) to about 100mm depth and filled with sand and cement. This was 2 days ago.
The kitchen is due to be fitted in 2 weeks so he’s been discussing with new plumbers about the low flow ufh being fitted next week and then he’s doing a very thin few mm screed on top. The new plumbers said they can either fit these fibre boards or what they more frequently use - some plastic ones with more give, and hopefully the pipes we already have will fit them so we’ve only wasted cost of the boards not the whole £3k!
I got another plumber round same day as the ones we’ve gone with (got 2 round in case one didn’t turn up) and he said the fibre boards we have will crumble if the floor isn’t totally dry but as mentioned we are going to try and change to plastic boards anyway as they have more give for the movement of the house and so if there’s any more movement the screed on top won’t crack.
As I said kitchen is due to be fitted end of the month and then we’re having amtico flooring.
But I’ve read online sand and cement needs weeks to dry!? So I’m confused how the ufh can go on next week?
And No1 seems to be listening to me.
