Light Bulbs keep popping

I have a problem where bulbs keep (very reguarly) popping. This is on light fittings in my kitchen, utility, lounge, hallway and landing. All other rooms appear to be ok. The whole house is one one lighting circuit.

This has not always happended but I cannot recall when it started and what had changed.

It's all different types of bulb and fitting.

Anything to check or a definate sparks job ?[/i]

Smaller "candle" type bulbs can be very short lived. If you fit a new set, you'll probably find that "they all start popping" about 6 months later (or less). It depends on the type of bulb, whether it's upright or pendant and how much heat can escape. It won't last long if there's no air flow past it (upwards, for those that didn't do physics).

Many ordinary bulbs are lucky to last a "typical" 2000 hours.
2000/(7x24) = 11.9 weeks if ON all the time! Or 48 weeks if on 6 hours a day (less than a year).

Bulbs that are turned on/off frequently last less time than those that are on for an equivalent total time but not frequently switched. (Does that mean what I wanted it to mean?)

Other factors are vibration, door-banging, cold draughts and hot rooms.

Also voltage surges, but you'd notice these as other bulbs would flicker.

These bulbs are popping VERY regular.

I have thought about voltage surges - This may be the cause of 2 new irons blowing up in a few months.

Is there a way to check this ?

Have you checked what the voltage in your house is? If it persists it may be worth while contacting your electricity supplier

Breezer is correct. If other appliances are failing, it's best to get your electricity supplier to fit a monitoring device to your supply. Could it be that someone is using, for example, an arc welder nearby? Do you notice any lights flickering?
