If these are GU10 50w downlighters then 12 X 50 =600 watts which is 2.6A (at 230v) A standard UK-style light switch is rated at a minimum of 6A, which is (usually) the value of the circuit breaker for the lighting circuit. But ..... A bedroom with 600w of lighting??????????????

I suspect what he meant was that if you buy a UK light switch it will be rated at at least 6A.

MK are 10A, IIRC.
