Lining got a belly in it

My bathroom door got a large belly on it the gap is 8mm compared to at the top of door. I thought I could hit a wedge into lining to push it out but lining butts up to plaster. Do I gently chip plaster back?

You might find the lining has bowed, and removing the plaster would make no difference, can't you live with gap and call it a feature?
