:?: Need some advice on the above please,Read many topics on how to perform the necessary tasks and i have plans to lay loft boards on top of 3x1 batons(ventilation purposes)solely for storage reasons. My 2 question"s is this,My house is over a 100yrs old,mid terrace.I have seen pics on the net of some attics and the RAFTERS look to be a lot bigger and wider than those in my attic. After a quick measure of my rafters they are just over two inches wide and depth to the ceiling is four.(1)Would the rafters be up to the task of carrying the weight of the boards?(2)The space to cover is 15'x25',How many 8'x2' boards would i need! Thanks

Your ceiling joistswill carry the boards OK, but it will only be suitable for storage.
If you want to use it for anything else you would require to beef up the joists, floor joists to span 15' (5m) would be 8"x2"

Number of floor panels at 2.4x.6m will be 25 minimum, depends upon your ceiling joist centres, as you need to cut the boards so that the ends join over a joist. This will work out fine if the joists are at 600, or 400 (2'-0 or 16") centres, but if they are 18" centres you will need to allow a few more boards. I would suggest you order a couple of spare boards to cope with cuts/staggers etc.

Thankyou paul,Sound advice there,Will get down b&q to get the boards and make a start as soon as poss! Thanks
