I am thinking of a DIY job on a loft creating a loft floor for space and possible conversion latter. The house is a 1920’s build with no eaves so the space is already there but I will need a floor. Is it possible to create a loft floor using two main beams running across from one end wall to the other for support? They are very thick and solid wood which go into the brick work. If I attach joist hangers from the two low main beams and run new joists as well as attach them to the old joists would this satisfy regulations on loft flooring?

The principle you suggest is fine; the reality is that the timbers won't work structurally.
