Hi,

My house was built in 2007 the roof space is occupied with two bedrooms leaving two small loft areas in the eaves on either side of the house. The loft space is boarded and fibreglass loft insulation has been put into black bin liners and stuffed into the space between the joists. Is this an accepted installation method?

Thanks

Yes,

Its open bin bags stuffed with glass fibre roll.

Have I found yet another job to do?

Ermm, lol.

In theory bin bags will limit air movement within the insulation so will actually improve the thermal performance, that of course assumes the insulation is fitted snugly and not with lots of gaps.

There is some risk that the plastic will trap moisture, this risk will be lower if you have vapour backed plasterboard or a proper vapour control layer.
