Pregnant daughter and her partner have just moved in to a flat which has been fully re-decorated, fitted with new carpets etc.

Thay have found however that the hot water pressure is extremely low, to the extent that if they lift the head on the bathroom mixer shower to a height where they can stand under it the hot water flow stops altogether.

The cold water storage tank is situated directly above the hot water cylinder in a storage cupboard inside the flat - hence the lack of water pressure.

Two questions - Is the best option to get an electric shower fitted? The flat is all electric, no gas available.

Daughter is contacting the letting agent today to raise the problem, just for information what with a baby due in a couple of months is the landlord under any obligation to ensure a useable supply of hot water? Even running a bath takes over an hour as the flow rate is so poor, would they have any recourse to Environmental health if the landlord refuses to address the problem?

Thanks in advance

Common problem with a flat and a Fortic Cylinder, Electric Unvented Cylinder MAY improve the situation depending on the incoming pressure & flow, but generally I don't think you will have much joy in getting it improved unless you have a generous landlord! ;)

Thanks for the replies.

Letting agent has been informed and has said she will contact the landlord, said that low water pressure had never been a problem before - find that hard to believe.

We also thought that an electric shower would be the easiest/most cost effective solution will have to wait and see what response they get from the landlord.

Just another point though, they have not yet got their washing machine plumbed in, what will the effect be of the low hot water pressure on carrying out washing? will they have to rely on a cold fill?

Thanks
