I recently bought a Mk3 Golf Auto. It starts and runs beautifully - most of the time. Periodically (once a week/month) it will start instantly, run for a second or two and die. It then restarts immediately and does the same again, maybe for 3 or 4 times before it again starts and runs perfectly. Last night it took upwards of twenty tmes to get it to continue running. This is irrespective of no accelerator, any degree of accelerator, pumping or not.
Could this be due to rain? Whatever the cause, how do I cure it?
