maybe a silly question, but do i need a seperate sky remote for each tv that has the magic eye run to it ?

No. One sky remote will work on all magic eyes.

...but it is useful to have a couple of spare remotes. It's a P.I.T.A. to get out of bed to get the one remote from downstairs, or to go back up next morning because it's still in the bedroom

Probably "yes" if you want the remote to work the TV as well as the Sky Digibox. You have to input the code for the specific TV model.
