Our old Stihl strimmer has packed in, and the local dealer says it's too old to get parts for ("it probably has a "Made in W Germany sticker somewhere on it" the mechanic said) - but I'll look into that another time.
So it thought, the split shaft tools I inherited has a strimmer - but the blooming (Ryobi) engine won't run (I suspect split diaphragm in the pump and it blows air down the fuel return line and foams the petrol till it comes out of every orifice in the tank !), I'll have a look at that when I get around to it.
The actual tools are Handy (IIRC).
1) Are these generally mix-n-match compatible between makes ?
2) Can anyone recommend a mains driven motor unit ? I say mains driven as it avoids any palaver with batteries that either go flat just before you finish a job, or just fail, or ...; and avoids hassle with petrol engines that decide today is the day they are going to be a bitch to start, or not start at all; and it's really no hassle to run out an extension lead for the few times I actually need to use it.
All I really want is something reasonably cheap for occasional use in a garden that's not postcard small, but not country mansion large either. All I realy use it for is going round the lawn edges every few cuts.
