Hi,

Newly bought house, I started 'prepping' the exterior window sills with a wire brush and scraper with the intention to repaint with masonry pain, but so much has come off and the edges are just sandstone (I think) which is too crumbly to paint right now so looking for some advice.

The sills look roughly the same condition as on this video, but unfortunately he doesn't talk about how he is going to repair or prep them:

I have some exterior filler for cracks etc, but should I be covering the exposed sandstone with something first before painting, especially as it's so crumbly?

It might help if you posted pics of your own sills?

Steve, use thin layers underneath or support the filler with a piece of timber rapped in clingfilm with a cramp holding the timber to the cill. The clingfilm stops the filler sticking to the timber. (y)
