Hello
I am tackling the sandstone surround of my bay windows, and wanted to check that I am on the right track. Basically i want to paint them, but need to remove loose material first.
I have been using a scraper to take off the paint, and beneath the paint am finding soft filler, very hard material, and crumbling material. I am not sure how far back I should take it, so am keeping to the very loose stuff.
How soft is sandstone? I am not sure if the "hard" material is actually some sort of previous repair, or sandstone. The loose crumbly material is filler I think. All of it looks very siimilar (beneath the paint) but am surprised by the different consistencies.
Also do I need to "seal" the sandstone before painting it again?
Thanks
Mike
