just wondered what others have used and anyone with experience of these pencils.

I use the 0.5mm every day for general writing and it's usually fine although you do get breakages. The 0.3mm should really only be for drafts persons artists etc. I would say the 0.7mm would be better for woodwork as your surface is rougher than paper and likely to lead to more breakages.

One other and it's been around since I was at school (many moons ago) is...
Staedtler mars technico leadholder clutch pencil 2mm 780C
Practically indestructible and under a tenner on Amazon. Lead size like a normal pencil, sharpener in the top although you'll have enough sandpaper lying around to never have to use it.
