Mercedes Citan (Kangoo) van brake pedal not returning

My Mercedes citan van 2015 brake pedle is not returning, (springing back) when I apply the brakes.I have to lift it ( pull it back) with the top of my toes. Changed the brake light switch , greased the pedal joints etc. Can't see if there is an actual return spring. Any ideas? Thank you
