I'm thinking of replacing my current rotten wooden gate posts with new 6 ft metal ones, of this sort:

How do I hang my gate on them? I'm currently using a hook on plate screwed to the wooden post. I don't really want to start drilling into the new metal posts. The new holes will allow water ingress and speed up corrosion.

I did see metal posts that come with the hooks but I don't think they're very common?

You could drill, tap and galvie spray if you can be arsed with all that. Personally I'd just self tapper it on, a bead of silicone along the top of your plate would help.

I paid extra, for my posts and gates to be galvanised, after being built, ready to install. It was well worth the additional expense.
