Hi,I've been extending my self built PD brick shed/garage and I now have a five sided structure with a roof span of over 20 feet at one end.I plan to have a lightweight corrugated steel roof.

I plan to construct an arrangement of joists from steel pallet racking (welded of course) to span the widest part, but am unsure of how to connect to the brickwork but allow for heat expansion, which I'd imagine to be fairly considerable over that length? :)

A quick look on Google says that steel expands 0.00000645 in/in/ ° f.

I make this an expansion of 0.06192 inches (1.57mm) over 20 feet, assuming you install when the temperature is 60°f, and that it might reach 100°f. Likewise, if the temperature dropped to 20°f the steel would contract by the same amount.

Not worth worrying about...
