I have just moved from an old Army house (60 years old) to a fairly mordern semi-detached house which is nine years old. In our old house ALL of the walls, internal and external, were solid brick so hanging stuff off them was no problem. The new house is timber frame with plaster board walls.

My question is will the shared wall with the other side of the semi be just plaster board and no brick? Would there be plasterboard - then a gap then more plasterboard? I really don't know much about building construction.

Normally the party wall is masonry (cavity blockwork).. but it can be timber frame, depends on how expensive your property is.. timber frame is the cheaper option..

Knock on the wall.. or go ask the neighbours..
