Hi,
I have a late 1800s maisonette in Edinburgh (Colony flat for info). The cellar has a soil floor and has about 6' between floor and the joists for the ground floor (I'm 6'2''). I've dug in one corner down to the footing and to do the same everywhere would give an additional 5 inches approx.
I'm not looking to convert into liveable space but would like to be able to use it for storage without banging my head every 5 minutes and / or dragging soil through the house when I come back up.
I have spare floorboards from some other work on the house so was hoping to use these. Obviously I don't want to lay these directly onto the soil due to mould so was thinking moisture barrier (5mm plastic sheet?), battens and floor boards on top to a thinkess of about an inch leaving the additional headroom.
Does this sound sensible? Am I missing anything daft?
