Moss treatment: mow lawn first?

I have a lot of moss in my lawn. I plan to try a moss killer product, then rake out the dead moss.

Question: My lawn is overdue for it's first cut now. Can I give it a trim now, before proceeding to attack the moss? Or should I go for the moss while the grass is still long?

I'd cut it on a high setting, then sprinkle the the moss treatment applied via a watering can. If you cut the grass short the blades of the mower will do quite a good job of spreading the moss spores about
