Have a problem with mould on our bathroom walls despite good ventilation ie we open the window after use etc... To get rid of the mould previously we have used polycell 3 in 1 mould killer, and then we applied an anti condensation paint, before repainting in the colour we want. This worked for a while, but now the mould is starting to return. Any suggestions on how to obliterate it once and for all :?:

Wash the walls down with fungisidal wash and maybe try acrilic eggshell which has anti fungul properties. The reason for mould is the damp conditions. After there has been alot of steam make sure the air is allowed to circulate! ul find that condensation will be worse on walls that have outside to them because they are "cold walls", only way to help this is better insulation in the outside walls. But obviously if there is loads off steam its gonna form on the walls whatever!!

Once treated use Dulux Trade Mouldshield, ( eggshell) it really does what it says on the tin, I have used it a few times on this sort of problem and it really does work.

an extractor fan is what you need. run it all the time the bathroom is occupied, with a run-on of 10 mins or so.

this will prevent a major steam build-up

after you have had a bath or shower there will be a lot of moisture in the air, and more will come off the wet tray, bath and towels, perhaps for half an hour or so

the window needs a throughflow of air from the house blowing through the bathroom and out of the window. a fan creates its own flow and is very cheap to run (25 watts typical, 40 hours running for 13p of electricity). People do not like leaving windows open while bathing as they feel cold. A fan avoids this.

if you drape wet washing or towels in there it will always be damp

Some people have a mental aversion to ventilation, you can defeat this by having the fans fitted to the lighting circuit so that they come on whenever anyone turns on the bathroom light.
