hi folks. I currently have a bathroom downstairs including toilet bath and sink. I was getting quotes to move it upstairs. The first guy that came out quoted £3000 and said that I would need builders out to dig underground to move the waste pipe. Second guy came out and quoted me £600 and told me to get the parts listed below and threat the first guy was talking nonsense about digging. Attatched is a picture of the parts needed and also a picture of the current setup. The little extension is where the bathroom is and behind it (the far right window) is where I'm getting it moved. I'm just a bit weary of the price drop from £3000 to £600 and wondered if it's legit. Thanks.

You'll need that stack moving, £600 guy sounds like a muppet. Get a third quote and see what that comes out as

So presumably he is talking about connecting the current stack to the bathroom? I'm assuming that isn't possible?

It's theoretically possible, but I suspect he's suggesting that you can put a 90° bend on top of the existing stack and run it along the roof line into the bathroom, which would do the job but would look f*ckin awful. Note that all changes to a stack are notifiable to Building Control, so if you decide to employ the rough barsteward you should ensure that he has a mechanism for getting it signed off

As Muggles say, he probably just going to connect to the current stack.

Ask him what he plans to do and how he plans to run the soil pipe, if it sounds like he's going to run it along under the guttering, above the door, then ask yourself would you be happy with that. That'll determine if he gets the job or not ;)

So is a macerator out of the question? From what I have read they are for want of a better word, ****.

They're lovely and work well until they back up. Unfortunately they back up every time you wave a sheet of toilet roll at them :sneaky:

The makings of the devil.....they are
