Moving outside light but have short cable.

Hello all, this is my first post as I could really do with some advice on this.

I have an outside light (at the moment a PIR floodlight) but I want to replace it to a none PIR and have the new one further up the house, as at the moment it is about 2 metres off the floor and on the corner of the house. I would like it to be at the top of the house and in the middle to come down over the back garden.

So, how do I go about extending the wire? From quickly reading the forums I'm guessing I need a new power cord (the new light states H05RN-F, 3G1.0mm2) and a junction box?

Has anyone please got any advice on this little project? Obviously the junction box will need to be waterproof, or are all junction boxes water proof?

How is the power to the current light controlled. Is there a 3Amp switched fused connection unit inside the house?

If yes to above then are you confident and competent enough to isolated the circuit and follow the safe isolation procedure to ensure it is dead?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply, I've dealt with minor things in the house like changing sockets, switches, lights etc (although learnt very quickly to turn the power off before putting the screw driver into a light socket)

So just a case of turn power off, remove old light, wire in current light into the junction box, wire new wire in, and wire up new light?

If you have a loft space and the lighting circuits serving upstairs are reasonably accessible, it may be possible to obtain power from there. It would remove unsightly external cables too. Preferably, get a competent electrician to do it for you.

Not quite as simple.
You need clarify how you old light was wired - normally through a live, neutral and earth from the switch. It will be slightly different if it a switched FCU.
With the power off you will need to clarify that the switch is wired similar to the 'by using a terminal block enclosed in the light switch', drawing here: http://www.diynot.com/wiki/electrics:lighting:single_way_lighting
The second terminal block is your weatherproof junction box.
