I am constructing a small, portable 6 lane track (2m long by 0.8m wide) to race battery powered pigs (!) for a charity fund raiser.

I would like to install a lamp at the end of each lane to indicate the winner. This will need 6 switches (micro?) and 6 lamps (12v or less) and wiring so that the winners lamp is the only one that lights up.

Can anyone assist with a wiring diagram (this is my biggest problem) and suggested parts list/supplier?

maplins, use bright leds and micro switches.

i am sure there is an easier way, but i would use relays tripped by the micro switches, when the first one trips it cuts the supply to the others.
If budget will streach, buy as 6 zone alarm, and microswitches. set it at every race and the panel will indicate which one tripped first

Have a look at this link:

http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/projects/quiz.htm

it shows a circuit that can be made to do exactly what you want. Substitute the push switches for microswitches, and although it only shows 4 channels it can be easily expanded for 6. It is available as a kit from the same website.
