Music

Any music stored on an Android can be streamed to a bluetooth (BT) speaker or car stereo which supports BT.
But how do I store music on an Android phone? Doesn't it need an app? No problem with bluetooth, or lead. As I said, I tried Spotify but wasn't keen.

Following your #2, I've copied some of my favourites from CDs on to a couple of USB sticks, and it works fine. Obvs limited to what I've copied.

Ok, I think I understand your point.

I think you are asking how to put the music on the phone to begin with.

I use my laptop to rip CDs and then transfer them to the phone. If you don't have a PC, yeah, it is more convoluted.

There is a "free" alternative to "acquire" music (which you can store on your phone) but I don't think I am allowed to talk about it here. With reason.

<hint: bittorrent>

That's right.

I have a W11 PC, which I chose to buy without a CD drive, as rarely used nowadays. But I also have an old XP so used that. Took a bit of getting used to how Media Player works, but OK now.

Not that it's a problem now I've put stuff on USBs, but curious how to do that. When I connect the phone (Galaxy A12) to the computer, there's an option Internal Storage or SD card, with various sub-folders under each. I copied a track to Internal Storage/Music and it appears there on the computer (under Galaxy). But I can't see it (or any of the Internal Storage etc stuff) on the phone. Any ideas? What am I missing?

Another thing while I'm on - on the XP I can open Media player (by playing a CD), with full functionality. On the new computer I can play music from a USB stick, and it comes up as Media player, but has no more functionality as far as I can tell. Maybe because there's no CD drive available?

I am only guessing... If you try (directly) copying tracks on a CD to a phone, the PC will send them as *.cda files. They first need to be converted to something like MP3 and then transferred (using the technique you used).

Media player? I haven't used it for quite a long time. Sorry. There are better alternatives though.

Yes, .cda files was what I found when copying direct from CD to USB - no use in the car.

I tried connecting the phone to the old XP computer (I should have thought of that before!) but it didn't recognise the phone. The XP wasn't connected to the internet, but when I connected it it made no difference. Maybe the computer predates smartphones.

On the XP, it does what I want at the moment, just curious it looks very different on the W11
