Musty Smell from under floor

Hi all,

We have original wooden floorboards in our lounge (victorian terrace) and our old cat has peed in the corner which has leaked through to the joists and the void underneath into the earthy/ rubble stuff.

I've thrown one floorboard away and have treated the surrounding area with all sorts (Next on the list is Nature's Miracle).

The problem we have is that if it is humid, the smell comes through and there is also a musty smell generally from under the floorboards where the earth is. All airbricks etc are clear and there is no sign of rot.

I do however have quite a lot of this earthy/ rubble stuff and what I assume is also crumbled brick/ mortar although there doesn't seem to be much missing.

After the cat peed , I lifted most of the earthy / rubble stuff and binned it however there is still some remaining and I'm not sure how far down it goes or what is supposed to be there.

I've seen this post which suggests laying some polythene and concrete.

Does this sound like a good idea and will it work?

thanks
