Please help I have had electician after electrician and plumber after plumber and still no hot water

sorry,,,my emersion heater packed in about 1 month ago.....it tripd all the electrics...I have had a new emersion heater fitting put in but still no joy...Iv had an electrician ans he said the wiring is fine....not sure if the replacement emersion heater is dodge

Can you elaborate a bit further? Specifically, what do you mean by 'tripped all the electrics'? If you can described what type of consumer unit you've got - e.g. an old(er) one with fuses (rewirable/cartridge) or a newer type with MCBs (individually switched devices) and what actually tripped? There may also be an earth leakage or RCD which could be tripping.

All said and done, however, I'm not sure what we will be able to advise you do because if you're asking the questions you won't be able to do much with the answers (that's not a dig, just saying that we wouldn't want you fiddling around with electrics if you don't know what you're doing).

Of course, the general advice applicable in this case is to get someone out with some competence - this is not rocket science - but I do appreciate that the monkeys out there, and there are a lot of them, unfortunately do not have to wear a sign around their neck saying that's what they are.

Yes I know! Im an amateur to say the least.Dont worry I will not be attempting anything myself.
I have a crabtree trip box :? (trip switches)
Obviously we had had the switch to the water heater off as turning it on knocks the rest off....
it was suggested that the wiring in the bathroom (the bathroom is underneath the loft were the water heater is. to which we did, but no joy....
an electrician has checked there is a current going to the emersion heater which there is but nothing in emersion itself.....I then changed the thermostat.......still no joy

sorry please excuse my ignorance......It is the one that says 'Water heater', there is one for upstairs sockets, upstairs lights etc....
if you get me

If one appliance knocks out half the board, it's an earth fault.
Either a wonky heater, or it the stat in it is wired up wrong.

ok.....does this mean the replacement immersion heater has been wired up wrong.....as we have had no issues in the past until recently when it 1st blew...

I do, but earlier you said it 'knocks the rest off' which implies that it's not just the Water Heater MCB that is tripping. As Bengasman has said, if it is indeed knocking more than just its own circuit off then this can only usually mean it is knocking out an RCD/ELCB i.e. a seperate device in/near the consumer unit that won't just be marked Water Heater.

You may wonder why I am asking - the reason is that an MCB trip is down to overcurrent, whereas an RCD/ELCB trip is earth leakage. This is some overlap between the two but knowing which it is gives a good place to start proper diagnosis. As mentioned, however, it really needs someone in front of it - any electrician, or some with good electrical knowledge, would soon be able to determine the problem through testing.

I'd get whoever fitted the immersion to come back and sort it out. I appreciate that you were having problems before, which may point to the wiring, but it's down to him to fit the immersion properly such that it functions correctly but if he is unable to do that because of some external factor then he ought to be telling you that or fixing the problem. Connecting an immersion heater to what he suspects is dodgy wiring is nothing short of negligent.
