The truth!

Tell you the truth I wish I could find just as fastidious builders as the replies on this thread at least I would get some real good work done

I'm still waiting on my sparks since November to finish a whole house rewrite which is starting to just drag on and on. And only today they hit me with until the chasing is plastered they can't issue a NICIUC cert. plastering which is not part of the work and was going to be done after the spark work was completed.

Oh we'll no cert no pay till the work is complete after all I'm paying £2200 for the whole job excluding plastering but capping included

Well they can't really give true test results until the plastering is done, I wouldn't certificate or commission an installation until it was, there is no guarantee that the IR test readings are going to be as they should.

The only things that's annoyed me with this whole work is first the guys told me they are NICEIC registered. Then half way in they say that although they are the Cerys cost £3000 so some one else will do the testing and issue the cert. I agreed saying no probs just get it all done as they where going to pay in the price of the job to get the other guy out to cert it. Then now they tell me that guy came out to change the tails and said they he won't cert it till the plastering a done which I have to do over the weekend. It's just a whole fares from start to end and I really just wanted to be told things on the beginning as I had a quote from another builder for £2500 and he was going to plaster as well. I thought is save a few hundred and do it myself later after they left.

Cerys! Is that meant to be Certs. What is being certificated for £3K?

Sorry thats iphone auto type for ya LOL

The sparky said that the actual certificates that are given to the customer and to register with the authorities, so that they can give the notification of work carried out cost is £3000 so he has not registered for that. and will be calling another guy to do the testing, give me a cert and notify my local authority and that guy has payed that £3000 and is able to put his name to the work and give me the cert and notify my local authority.

I think there has been some bull excrement offered in your direction!
Your local council, charge £406 for electrical work that is done via an electrician that is not a member of a "COMPETENT PERSONS SCHEME" (such as ELECSA, NICICE, NAPIT) If they are a member, the notifications costs, in my case would be £1.50 (150 new pence)
So where £3k is calculated from I do not know!

im just going by what i was told, seeing as you are a member of teh scheme is that £3k got anything to do with the fees involved in becomming a competent person

either way for me its all in the charge im paying the sparkys

just annoying these things get told to me after the work has started

It cost me £444 for yearly renewal, I calculate that cost in to my quotes over the year.

Is this including the work being carried out or just for the notification and documents?

If I understand what you have said, it's more than annoying. They are having you over!
