need to join properly if tiling over plasterboard?

Having removed the existing tiles in my bathrooms there are sections of plasterboard that need replacing.

As I'll be tiling over it do I really need to do the joins propely with joint tape etc?
Can't I just fill the small gap, even with the tile adhesive/grout I would have thought?

yes

I hope the plasterboard isnt in wet areas ,if yes you need to use Cement Backer Board
