Hi, we have just had fitted a new combi worcester boiler and a dove triton.

My problem is that everytime now we run the taps, we only seem to get a trickle from one tap if the other is put on, for instance if i was filling the bath and put on the hot tap as soon as I try to add cold water the hot one will turn into just a trickle.

Both the shower and boiler were fitted by a reputable Corgi company and I wondered if it was worth informing them of this problem to see if they can rectify it or is that just the way these new combi boilers work.

I never had this problem with my old power shower and floor standing combi.

Any help appreciated.

my old power shower and floor standing combi. any help appreciated.

not sure they normally go together.

seems yu might have been talked into having a combi boiler when you did not have the adequate pressure and flow..

did you have a stored hot water cylinder before?[/url]

yes i did have an old copper cylinder but this was taken out and the combi was installed in its place.

also the reason i mentioned the shower was that now if taking a showewr and somebody else puts any tap on in a different part of the house the shower goes freezing cold for a few moments until the other tap is taken off, this also never happend when i had the old power shower i thought it might all be related.

Unfortunately it seems your installer did not inform you of the limitations of a combi. Could be that you have been mis-sold this boiler :?

I would always tell my customers at the time of the site visit for a quote that they will only be able to run one hot outlet at a time.

Could also be that your water pressure/flow rate is too poor for a combi as already suggested, or the boiler has not been commissioned properly to get every last bit of hw from it.

no nothing was mentiond about that at the time of sale, by the way i thought that with todays legislation laws, that combi boilers have to be installed now by law, and that free standing ones and the old back boilers are now illegal to install.

You sound confused. Have you actually had a combi installed or just a heat only condensing boiler and kept your HW cylinder?

Condensing boilers have to be fitted today but not combis

no i have not kept the cylinder, i might be confusing a combi and a condensing boiler, i know mine is called a worcester greenstar 24i combination condensing boiler( i checked on the manual)

As you have the 24i then I personally feel you have been mis-sold this boiler.

I NEVER fit 24Kw combis unless it is for a factory unit with only a couple of hand basins.

I always fit a 30Kw or greater depending on the answers the prospective customer gives me to my on site questions about the HW usage and bathing/showering habits.

oh dear i was led to beleive this was the bees knees in boilers .i have quite a large 5 bed house so there are obviously a lot of basins etc in bedrooms and ensuites etc. actually i am quite pleased with the boiler its so much quieter etc than my old ancient boiler but as i first said it was just the pressure thing with the taps that was the problem. thanks for all your advice. i am going to ring the plumber back and jsut mention about my problem and i will see what he says.

the 24Kw will have been the cheapest quote????

it was actually the only quote, we had heard from a two lots of friends who had used the same company so knew they were realiable and clean/tidy with the job etc, we paid £2770, this was the removal of the old boiler etc and the installation of the new one. does that sound about right. i
