I have just moved into a new build and would like to put up some wall lights.

The walls have all been finished and I have been left with the standard Grey cables coming out of the walls.

The room has three places for wall lights, controlled by one switch.

I am however confused by the cabling.

In one corner I have one standard grey cable which I'm assuming I would strip down to find my three standard wires.

However the other two places for wall lights have two cables coming out joined in a continous loop.

Obviously when I cut through them I am going to have two cables containing my three wires.

This is where I get confused. Why has this been done?

All help greatfully received!

If you were wiring up your three lights form one switch, like this, I think your wiring arrangement is exactly what you'd expect to see.

Cheers Reg,

Don't suppose you know of any good how to sites for this sort of thing ?

Ok so having look through this treasure trove of knowledge I can see that I am obviously on a looping circuit.

Which kinda makes sense.

I can see how this works for Ceiling Roses with a loop pass through.
Am i to assume that wall uplighters also have the loop pass through connection?

Well not really - in the diagram, the switch is acting a bit like the ceiling rose, but there's no loop out cable to go to the next rose. You could add one to the switch if you wanted (ie take a live feed and neutral to a new ceiling rose.... etc etc).
In the diagram, the live going to each light is only a "switch live", ie it's not a permanent live.
Hope this is clearing things up...
