weve recently moved to the area i dont even know my neighbours
i can do without a cooker but i do require a special diet so its not easy
the only electrician i could get to even talk to me is the one i mentioned above

having said that i can quite competently use a screwriver ect ( my last husband was an electrician who now lives in thailand ) he showed me how to wire correctly ect
im not afraid to drag my ass along the floor to sort this .. :D

I wouldn't recommend you do anything to the cooker right now while it is dark. The safest option is to wait until tomorrow, and turn off the main switch at the consumer unit, that way you can be sure* that the circuit is isolated.

Then remove the cover of the 'cooker box' and have a look for any loose conductors or any strands from the cables that may be touching another conductor. Take a few snaps while the cover is off and post them here and we should be able to help you further.

*best practice is to test that the circuit is dead by checking for voltage using a multimeter. But assuming your house was wired by a competent electrician you shouldn't have any problems after flicking the main switch.

After a telephone conversation, and some fault-finding, it seems that the cooker is faulty.

buttonbabe - when the new cooker is installed, whoever does it, please remember to use sleeving on the earth conductors at all points.
