Has the CAA have given drone pilots a better deal ? Not really on the one hand they have but then taken that away with another. For example FPV cannot be flown without a spotter, weights of drone are now mainly irrelevant but with a caveat, VLOS is now replaced with Direct which means if you look at your controller to take pictures you have to have a spotter. Night flights require a strobe or a drone with this built in. Flyer ID and operator ID are still separate entity's, Remote ID is now required which isn't enforceable until 2028 but it is coming.

I have just given mine to my grandson who is 10. His dad got one for christmas so they can learn together, pass the test and grandson will be flying supervised. I’m too old to be learning new tricks with technology, besides he’ll love it.

Is it any good ? I fancy one this year. Not a silly priced one.
When I bought it, it was the top of the range drone and a professional model, it cost me nearly 2k but you can buy plenty of them on eBay for between £400 to £600 which for the size of drone is one hell of a bargain.

you would be fine with a DJI drone, they virtually fly themselves

I have a Mini 3 Pro with Flyer ID and Operator ID.
Don't have a Remote ID. Have to figure out how to get one.

Your drone will either do it or you can get a module to fit that will broadcast it. Any new drone bought as of now needs to have remote ID but for a legacy drone you have up to 2028 to fit a module.

Just add to the above that class 0 (under 250g) weight does not require to have remote ID, but for class 1, 2 and 3 it does.
