What is the process for fitting a new gas fire? Obviously, I am not going to fit it but get a CORGI registered fitter, but just wondering what work I need to do prior to the fitter coming?

Nonetheless, I am hoping to replace it with a nice fireplace, hearth and fire.
Should I fit the fire surround prior to the fitter coming? If so, how do I do this without removing the current fire?
