I have just had a new radiator to my system. It gets hot ok but when it reaches the required temp it goes off which is ok but it doesn't come back on unless I turn the trev manually any ideas.

The TRV is there to control the room temperature not the radiator temperature. So, is the room still at the set temperature? If so, then the TRV won't turn the radiator back on until the room starts to cool.

i haven't got a room stat so I am relying on trv but the other rads come on and off.

It doesn't matter if you have a room stat elsewhere or not.

Thermostatic radiator valves senses the air temperature in the room and adjust the flow of water to the radiator to keep the room temperature stable. If the room is warm the TRV will shut the radiator down or off until the room temperature cools, then it open up again.

If you had answered my original question with:

A) The room is still at the temperature it should be, then I would say that's good, the TRV is probably working.

But if you had answered..

B) The room has cooled but the radiator hasn't come back on then I would have said the TRV could be faulty.

If you suspect that it's faulty and you have another radiator with the same type of valve, swap the heads over and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for that advice I will inform the person who fitted it.The room does go cold.
