can't see it as being any more dangerous than having the gas meter under a unit in the kitchen, or a light switch and bulb in there..
i'm going on the asumption that it's not going to be for a 3Kw electric heater under there to dry your boots off...
I'd probably sleep better if I were you if the cupboard had some kind of air vent under there to prevent build up of gas in the event of a leak.. but then i'd feel better for that even if it didn't have a socket..
Cheers for the rply
The gas meter is actualy in a small coat cuboard in the entrance hall
but i want a socket in there for when im cleaning the car,its only going to be used for the hover/jetwash.
From your reply it seems this would be ok,which is what i thought.
A hover and jetwasher would be ok then?
You'll want to make sure that socket is protected by a 30ma RCD
Go over to the plumbing section for your original question, when they are brought together, any possible extra risk is due to the gas, rather than electricity (its not flammable )
You might consider drilling through the wall and mounting an outdoor, waterproof socket outside. Get one with a cover that will seal shut even when a plug and flex are in it.
You can get them with RCD incorporated but they are incredibly expensive.
It is actually cheaper to use an interior RCD spur inside the house and feed the outside socket from that.
While you're at it check that your Main Bonding is up to date (should be a clamp on the gas pipe with a green+yellow wire on it connected to the consumer unit terminal or main earthing point by the meter; and another on the water pipe)
