Newbie cutting carpet fo room first time

Hi,

So got the carpet kicker, carpet, underlay and gripper boards to cover a small room 2.5 x 2.5ms. I am going to start out by fixing one machine cut edge to first wall then roll out to the opposite wall but hat I would like to know is how much to overcut the carpet intially? would an additional allround 5cms be right and then trim it once it is down?

Please point me to a webpage if this already posted somewhere.
