PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH MY PROBLEM.I HAVE JUST MOVED INTO A 1930'S HOUSE WITH A VERY OLD POTTERTON BOILER WITH A EMERSION TANK UPSTAIRS,THE HEATING IS WORKING OK BUT THERE IS NOT A DROP OF WATER COMING OUT OF ANY OF THE HOT WATER TAPS THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE.THE COLD TAPS ARE RUNNING FINE.THERE ARE A NUMBER OF VALVES THAT I HAVE OPENED AND CLOSED BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED.MAYBE I NEED TO LEAVE THE VALVES OPEN LONGER? . THERE IS A HOT WATER TIMER ON THE WALL WHICH WHEN MOVED TO THE "ON" POSTION LIGHTS UP AND YOU CAN HEAR THE BOILER FIRE UP AS TO HEAT THE WATER BUT NO WATER SEEMS TO FLOW SO I TURN IT OFF IN CASE IM DAMAGING THE BOILER.

HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE TO SOMEONE.ANY HELP WOULD BE GRATEFULLY APPR.

First thing is, STOP SHOUTING at us.
Sounds like the cold water feed to your hot water cylinder tank has been turned off. You will have a cold water feed pipe from the tank in the loft to the bottom of your water cylinder, it is usually the largest pipe around the tank, 28mm in modern houses. It should have a valve on it which needs to be fully open. If it isn't obvious to find, look for the pipe entering the lowest point on your cylinder (usually just a few inches above the bottom and don't get mixed up with the boiler in / out pipes which are close together and about half way up, this will be on its own and lower than those), follow the pipe which should rise into the loft and locate the valve, open it fully.
