No hot water

Despite the fact that the pilot flame on my vulcan boiler is lit, and about 30 seconds after turning the boiler on it goes "WHUMPH", like it's supposed to, I don't get any hot water. Any suggestions in language-for-idiots would be appreciated.

Sorry mate but I think its time you got someone in as there is a combustion problem which only a CORGI engineer can fix

Unless the 30 secs is the time for the CH valve to open! Programmer could be dud, cyl stat.... more info please!
 
Chances are with it being a near thirty year old boiler it will be a gravity system . So check header tank to make sure ball valve has not stuck and tank is empty.
