No light coming on my room thermostat

A black canister with a red label would be a magnaclean.

And yes it would be cleaned out when you have your boiler serviced.
It is only meant to pick up small residue left in your system after being cleaned ( properly) not a substitute for cleaning.

Ask the Worcester engineer about it when he comes.

I will get off my high horse now :P
