I just wondered if anyone had heard of this before. I have NO OFF SWITCH for the mains water supply to my flat.

There is no stop cock outside the building as it appears to have been concreted over at some point by - who knows - the council or previous owners or maybe even cable installers.

Inside the building there is no stop cock between the mains supply and the all appliances and taps.

Has anyone heard of this before?

It seems like a very bad situation to be in! If there was a leak we would be in huge trouble!

Get it sorted

Ask your landlord or council to investigate. You may need to use one day.
Flats do have one outside, have a look for a metal cover. If as you say it has been concreted over then it will have to be uncovered.

Might be worth asking your water company to take a look. :)

I wouldn't be so optimistic. In N London Thames Water are filling in the holes in the pavement where the stop cocks are to absolve them from responsibility. They use consrete. There should be a stop cock on your side of the boundary.
But 99% don't have them. You get one if you have a meter under the pavement, but they often put them under the kitchen sink these days.

All you can do is make sure everyone has their water turned off, freeze the water in the pipe then put a stop cock in --wherever the heck you can.

I had a mailing from Thames Water recently offering me INSURANCE to cover the cost of maintaing the supply from the mains to my property.

According to them the section of mains that goes from under the road into a house is the householders responsibility. Even though it is OUTSIDE the boundary of the property.

Will have to look into this further.

Thanks for responding.
